http://mustangforums.com/articles/2008/11/is-the-2010-mustang-strong-enough.html#more
So I was just reading this article about the stang versus the camaro, and it seems to me that any wise shopper would choose the V6 camaro over the Mustang GT.
Camaro = 5 grand less than expected cost of the stang GT, yet only 15 less horse. Camaro has a slight weight disadvantage as well, as the stang has 11.4 pounds per horsepower, whereas the v6 camaro has 12.3. But I have to say that those camaros are sure sexy lookin'. And with the 5 grand you save on the Camaro, I'm sure you could make it quite a bit faster than a GT.
I know if I was in the market for something in that price range, I would have no problem choosing the V6 Camaro over the GT...and I'm a Mustang fan! It just seems like a no-brainer. I think Ford screwed up by not bringing more power to the table in 2010 and they will be having a rough year until they bring out the supposed new powerplant in 2011. What do you all think? Anything that can help me see the light, cuz it's lookin' kinda dark.

I was facing the same kind of decision back in 2002... Mustang GT Vert vs Camaro SS... SS was a friggin' rocket ship compared to the GT... But at the end of the day the GT was a much better car! The SS was fast but didn't handle for crap compared to the Stang. The SS was bigger on the outside yet smaller on the inside. The SS had a cheesy interior... That's just for starters...
Then of course we'll have to see which car companies are still in business a year from now..

Well I guess this will be one of the painful discussions over the winter. Meaning anytime any other car is out there, the hey this car might be faster, what do you think??? I think I love my car. I think the first ,last and all the in between times the V6 Camaro lines up at the track next to me will be the same. They will lose, hey I might be dead wrong but thats where the fun is. Hp #s are just that numbers. I feel confident the 2010 GTs will be just fine. If not 2011 should be a different story. I think all the competition will be fun and improve all of the cars.

Yep, have to agree with John and Dale... there will always be something faster or better out there.. but to me, there's more to my Mustang than it's HP numbers...
Like Dale, I just love my car, and that includes both my old 4.0 too... There were a ton of cars I lusted after and I would have loved to have back in the 60's/70's, but I just couldn't afford them... and to be honest, I totally lost interest in anything after 1973... nothing really floated my boat like the S197's!! I do like the new Challenger, and would consider one, but only to add to my Mustang in the stable.
I've always had pickups, the wife always got the car or SUV... I have never, ever taken care of a vehicle (though the wife and my kids would argue that point, I usually take pretty good care of my rides... but nothing like I do now with the Mustang)..... and never appreciated it like I do my Mustang. Never paid any attention to the after market, new colors and options like I do with the S197 Mustang.
You'll understand one day when your an old fart like me, you'd damn near sell your soul to recapture at least some of your youth, even just a moment... and that's what my mustang does for me... I love it's styling, color, smell, sound, and look of it, the leather.. and riding along, listening to the rumble and jam'n to my mp3's of CCR, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and even the Beach Boys!

I know both domestic cars are nice, but there is something to be said about owning a pony.... and as Rick said "there is always something faster out there...." but I guess you can call me a Ford "loving hater fanatic" I feel a certain pride driving the pony and that is worth a lot more to me than money...

They said the same thing about the Chargers and Challengers. Yet we still hold our own and then some. And...
HP sells cars...
But lets see what these cars ET at.

I think the Mustang legacy will definitely help float the Mustang sales a lot, I would just like to see Ford bring something more to the plate and lay the smack down. Hopefully 2011 has the 5.0 Coyote in store like people say it will.

anybody else hear about the factory installed 'power-packs' for the 2010 mustang GTs? you can buy a blown GT with 400-500 horsepower as a dealer option, or so they claim.
goes a long way to keep up with the camaro and challenger.

These new Camaros are light years ahead of what they were. They almost should not be talked about in the same sentance

Unfortnatly the only mustang i ever owned was full of issues, so my view is going to be biased based on that, but i think they need to revamp it alot more than just uglying up the rear end to sell the numbers they need to.

i've said it once and i'll say it again, i was a camaro lover for years. i was mainly interested in the first generations but because of the cost to own factor, that wasn't a reasonable car for me at the time. i love the raw hp you get in camaros and i've always felt ford has always left it up to the guy at home to kick some chevy ass but the problem is guys like me can't. i'd prefer getting a car from the factory with a lot of power than me having to add stuff. since i don't do drag strips, i prefer feeling the torque at a green light on the street or when i shift down on the freeway to pass. will other cars be faster, sure. but i choose my cars based of the fun factor, not time factor.
besides, these new camaros i think look better than the new mustangs. i reallly like all the things chevy put in this new camaro and i hate the tail of the mustang. so which would i choose? i'd take the camaro because it costs less and looks better and with the money i save i can get a nice exhaust set up and probably do some things on the intake to make as powerful.

The S197 is a classic, the new Camaro...not quite...honestly if you want the best sports car for the money go buy the 370z...best car for the money and it will eat an off the lot mustang, camaro, or challenger...personally I'll keep my S197 thank you very much...great to be a part of history and trend-setter as opposed to a follow-on...furthemore chickcar or not, any woman will tell you they like the S197 better than the new camaro or the challenger...and lets be honest with no backseat you have a tough time getter laid in your new Z or Vette...good luck...

Well the story goes on and on pony car vs. pony car. Ford has never been close in that rece (HP/speed), but they have survived without shutting down for years only to come back with a face lift. Sure the Chevy is faster, but I bought my Mustang because I like the car and I am a Mustang fan. If you feel you have to keep up with the fastest you will go crazy. It is like electronics; just when you think you have the latest and greatest they will come out with something better. My first car was a 1967 GTA Mustang Coupe (still have her) and my last car will probably be a Mustang (hopefully not this one).

Im still not sold that a 370Z will eat a Camaro SS. Cuz doesnt the SS have a better power/weight ratio? 332hp 270tq and 3232lbs for the 370Z and 422hp and 408tq and 3860lbs for the Camaro SS.

I bought a S-197 because it's a Mustang that remembers the original 60's Mustangs not because it's a US muscle car...
I like his look copying original Mustang ! (I'm not a fan of Fox and SN94 at all.. sorry for their owners) The S-197 is not top quality inside, has a live axle, old engines (like Cologne V6) poor brakes but I love his style:049: and it's always a great time to drive it.:049:
2010 is the modern interpretation of the S-197 and of course of the 60's Stangs, so: 2010 may be.... but I can wait until my S-197 is boring me!!!
Camaro is for sure a very good car (better car) with good modern engines (better engines), IRS, etc.. but it's a Disney car :boggl3y3dummy-ani: ... with not that kind of aura that Stangs have...
I'm sure the Chevy 3.6 V6 will be powerfull but will have the same or even worse mileage (see mileage of Caddy CTS) than 315 HP 4.6 GT V8 without the torque and the V8 sound!
Camaro SS will be a great small fat Corvette.
But today GM and Ford have bigger problems than selling Stangs or Camaros.... Bad for us

Well damn it if your gonna use math!...sike nah...your prolly right I thought the SS was much heavier...I actually didn't know that the Z had some little torque...lame...

I don't think the 2010 Camaro V6 will give the 2010 Mustang GT much trouble. The new Mustang is going to beat the new Camaro to market by a couple of months. So, even if the Camaro V6 is close to the GT in horsepower for thousands less, the GT's new bodystyle will carry the day until six months later when the 2011 Mustang arrives with new, more powerful, more competitive engines.
The real problem will be from the Challenger V6 which comes standard with an automatic and IRS while the MSRP is only $100 more than a 2010 V6 Mustang. Although the Challenger is a pig, an automatic is extra cost on a Mustang V6, and IRS, as everyone already knows, is not available.

2011 mustang 6 months later? if you think the 2011 mustang is coming out fall of 09 ur mistaken.
and both the camaro and 2010 mustang are slated for "spring 09" no for sure dates.

Maybe I'm just to damn old but I'd like to know how the hell you can get laid in an S-197? That would make for a new chapter in one of those "101 sexual position books"

On a hood under the stars is my favorite ;-)
You could have some fun in the back if she's short too.
i'll definitely stick with the S-197 though.
