just missed out on a killer deal from rick

I feel his pain....I missed out on a couple of deals myself. There were two back to back X-Chargers on here. After reading a bit more and weighing my options I may decide to go a different route. I ran across a deal for a Satin Vortech non-intercooled for under 3k brand spankin new....I have 30 days to decide if I want it or not....if the group buy doesn't happen for the 'X' and a used one doesn't surface I might just be a Vortech owner myself. Does anyone know why they seem to get a bad wrap on here? Is it a decent kit? I'm still researching...I just found out about the Vortech deal late Friday night...

I haven't been paying attention super close, but I hadn't seen any bad rap on the Vortech.

With all of the options out there, seems like it won't be long before the majority of 4.0's on here have some type of F/I, haha.

Vortech FTMFW!

I just said they get a bad wrap based on some older threads I read...plus there's like 90 million X-Charger threads lol. I see that people have Vortechs in their sigs, but there's like one Vortech thread for every 10 X-Charger threads....I'm even guilt of starting a few myself! After reading more and getting the final price of the X-CX I think I'm going to expand my options a bit more before it's all said and done. I had been decided on the 'X' for a while...but now I'm more confused than ever! I think me including looks and sound in my decision making process was a very bad idea. My eyes are now open and I'm weighing my options and now I'm giving serious thought to a Centri type setup or a Turbo. I just can't see myself spending like $6K for ALMOST 100rwhp gain when there are other options out there that are in the same price range or cheaper that will get me the same or much better gains. I know I know... :btddhorse: Sorry for the thread jack!

well... i have been working on this project for about 6 months and have been trying to keep it very quite. but i think Im close to coming up with the system so I guess i could explain my plans a bit.

the head unit will be a totally a custom fabrication incorporating a small compressor housing with huge 5" CNC impellers. it will be built using T6 aircraft quality alum and 18/8 stainless materials. the first kits will provide 5-6 lbs of boost at 5,500 rpm. the next generation will provide 6-10 lbs of boost and will include upgraded bearings and an intercooler. the kits are completely upgradable and can produce up to 15 lbs of boost above ambient - for those to will dare....

I have been trying to line up the manufacturers and trying to to build the prototype for testing. im suppose to get my head unit this coming week for testing.

i will offer it in three kits:

1) Basic kit: requiring some fabrication of parts and hardware
2) Tuner Kit: everything included except injectors and custom tune
3) Complete kit: all inclusive, just installation needed

pricing will be extremelly low as an introductory kit - lower than any new kits out there. those people who have ordered my GT500 chin spoiler will get an even better deal - basically i will return the price of the spoiler at a minimum.

i will also offer local installation for free!!! for the first two kits sold.

similary to my spoiler kit, i will provide super detailed installation information and super fast customer service for those in need.

im really working out the details, warranty and installation sequence. as soon as I can get my testing done I will start marketing the kits on line. I expect this to happen in april.

sooo, can you guys wait some more time? if all works out it will be worth the wait...i Promise,,,,,

Man...I was so close to making up my mind on what I wanted. If my pockets keep burning like this April may too long a wait for me. Any ideas on pricing and/or power? Even some type of price/power range would be good so I'd have some type of idea what you're working with would be great.

Only thing I don't like about the centri's are the retention of the ugly intake manifold. Gonna try to get it coated.

Why not just get a custom painted plenum cover? I've seen those and they look pretty decent...what I haven't seen are custom painted fuel rail covers for our cars. Do those exist?

hah i knew this was coming, that is why i kind of hesitated to disclose my plans. but anyways, for pricing is too early to tell but first pass is as follows:

1) basic kit: $2,199
2) tuner kit: $2,399
3) complete kit: $2,999

keep in mind these are intorductory prices and will only be honored for a few months. pricing does not include s/h/i - estimate about $100.

power might be a bit harder to estimate. comparable units out there producing 5-6 lbs range substantially but for the sake of discussing im shooting for 260-270 lbs of torque to the rear wheels at about 6,000 rpm. the 6-10 lbs of boost will easily make it to 300 lbs of torque. these are very conservative numbers and wont know exactly until i get the prototype dyno'd.

Dagnabit!!! I'm this close "_" to jumping all over Armycook's PH Turbo kit....and had to see this. My legs already have singe marks from my burning pockets lol. That sounds like a decent kit with an extremely fair price.

I'm very interested. I now have all the money in order to purchase. Just let me know when the release date is!

It does sound like a good kit...and a killer price too. I think what I'm going to have to do is save about 2more K for a Procharger kit with a D1SC upgrade. Thats gonna take a couple month(getting married and having a baby in one year is costly!!!)....In the meantime if this kit comes out and can make at least 330-340rwhp/rwtrq on 10-11#s of boost then I might have to go with it. Any idea on what type of tuner will come with the complete kit? I already have an SCT SF3 that I bought during the holidays last year.

I have been talking to justin at VMP tunning who will provide the SCT tune for all the kits. Most people in the forrum know who he is. If you have not checked out his web page you should. I think hes still got one of the fastest sixers on the planet. very knowledgable with all supechargers.

Im currently running the 91 octane tune from VMP with a custom CAI and have never had a problem. frankly I would not go anywhere else for a tune.

I'm familiar with VMP. I haven't had a need for a tune from anyone yet. Instead of going the CAI route I figured I'd just wait and go straight to F/I. I picked up that tuner new for $260 which is why I got it. I figured I would save money since F/I kits without tuners are usually cheaper....plus I wanted to see how much of an improvement over stock the canned 93 oct tune was. I think after I get my blower I'm going to go with Tillman Speed...they're also supposed to be really good and are in driving distance. I checked the price of VMP's custom F/I eTune and it was $250 for one file. I'm pretty sure getting it dyno tuned wouldn't be much more at all and it would be better for my car.

you need to read the fine print to check what you get for the $250.it is a whole lot more than just the canned tune.

in your case the my tuner kit would be better for you.

I was saying the VMP eTune is $250. Dyno tuning is like $50 more. I think most would agree that dyno tuning is better than etuning. I know Justin does more than just send a canned tune. I believe he will look at your datalogs and adjust the tune and what not...but I think I'd rather get dyno tuned...plus I want to have Tillman Speed write an emissions friendly tune for me too.

hmartine
02-23-2010, 07:53 PM
yeah i think you are right..local dynos can adjust a bit better for atmospheric differences..the canned tune is for those not having a local tuner that can dyno...it is still a great way to tune the s/charger

Topless Stang
02-23-2010, 08:35 PM
I agree. If I didn't hear such great things about Tillman speed I would go with Justin or Doug @ Bama(if he ever gets his affairs in order). Those are a couple of great options for those in need, but come emissions testing time I would hate to have to strip everything off my car & flash it back to stock just to put it all back on after I pass. It hard to get etunes to pass emissions from a tuner that's not aware of how emissions testing is done where ever you live.

hey guys i wanted to give you an update on the kit. I have been out of town on a job assignments so I have not spent much time lately. but it is still alive. basically working at it at nite after work and talking to fab shops in my area. got the head unit and have started the test fits, making modifications, test fitting, making modifications--get the point...a lot of R/D to get it right. this week I'll have the plate and the spacers cut and hopefully next weekend I can test fit it one final time. after that download the tune and dyno it. check out some of the pics attached. stay tuned...
