Well after seeing CK3's beauty and Turbo's nice rides. I've been wanting to soup up an old fox.
I know the basic styles, I'm not a fan of the four eyes, but I do like the 87-93(is that the years?) Foxes.
I want to get a 5.0 and stroke it to a 337 Stroker, then try for a really high compression, 11:1 maybe even lower(Or higher?) And get a tank of nitrous as big as my trunk!
Would it be cheaper to find a 2.3 and convert it? Or to find a 5.0 and upgrade everything, I'll prolly start off with a whole new block, since the 5.0's around me are in the 100k+ Mile range. The 2.3 comes with the 7.5 rear end that we have? What about the 5.0, does it have the same 8.8 as the new 4.6's?
Also, what's the difference between the notch and hatch? I think I know but I'm not 100%

Yep, the 2.3 comes with a 7.5" and the 5.0 comes with an 8.8". If you are going to race it the notchback is much lighter. It would be a lot of work converting the 4 banger to a V8. I've researched it!

It tells you everything there but the main reason to do it is that the 4s haven't been abused usually and you can beef up the chassis before it gets all twisted.
I want another Fox too but i just don't have the money to mod my car and do a Fox project also.

I'd like an SVO, following that a 89 LX 5.0 notch.

I'm a 4-eye fan, but I like the Mercury versions better. I'm always on the lookout for a clean '83-'86 Capri RS. Sadly, the '86 model didn't sell well and they are very hard to find in decent shape these days. Too bad, since they are the best of the lot (injected motor, good suspension and tires, etc.). I'll find a good one sooner or later though!

I am with you there DT.
My first introduction to a Mustang was the '84 Capri I had. Kept it all the way through college and unfortunately traded it in for the more practical family car when the kids came.
Now they are getting older so it is my time to play again.
After this car is done my wife and I will be looking for a Fox. She likes the 90-93 style GT with the louvered tailights and I like the older 85-86 types! Now she is waffling a bit and leaning towards a Cobra convertible, so we shall see how this turns out :043:
I already have my eye on a 92 LX 5.0 convertible for my son when he hits 16. Engine is in great shape, body is rust free but does need some TLC. Should be a great project for us to work on together. Thinking of buying it this summer and playing it off like it is my car, then working on it till he hits 16 and passing it on!

Thanks for that link Jimp. I now know the upgrade from the 4 to the 8 is a huge step. I might just find a 5.0 and get a whole new engine. Or use the same block.
My uncle and I are wanting to build a race car, we wanted to use my '66 as it, but I decided not too. So now I was thinking a Fox, they have a lot of potential, the notches weigh light, and the performace parts are cheap!

Another way to go is to get the 4 banger and swap in a V8 with a carburator so you don't have to deal with the computer and harness. It's still a lot of work.

youre too young to remember those days but highschool was ALL abotu whoever had the 5.0... there was a guy with a two tone (what looked like redfire and gray) 5.0 gt with the shingles over the taillights i know our stang looks thebest but something about that era.... vert or hatchback that just RULES.... that spoiler that came off of the hatch that wrapped around just reminds me of being 16 again.

Yea man, the 5.0s were big in my day at school as well. I remember when the 94's were about to come out, a bunch of my classmates had the pre-release material from the dealerships, drooling over the new body style.
I always loved the clean lines of the LX combined with some nice long chrome pipes coming out the back.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that the 5.0 GT was the one with the louvered tailights.
I have heard that the louvered tailights are getting tough to find and pricey too.
Love that look.

What do you guys think.
Would it be cheaper to rebuild the stock 5.0 block, from bottom to top, or to buy a whole new 5.0 crate motor, or even up the size to like a 351w?
Edit: Keep in mind this will be a street legal race car!

Get the Boss 302. Very strong engine for a pretty damn good price.
Well, it depends on how serious you plan to get.
