well i figured that i would spend 150 on new tails anyways, so its worth trying to customise my 05's i have.... and i think they came out better than i expected! saved myself 150 bucks... well the paint and clear coat cost 11 bucks.

i cut my own shapes into self adheisive vinyl and positioned them onto the light. primed it, bace coated several times... then i removed the vynil and wet sanded it all lightly, then clear coated and buffed it.

so.

black scoops
black spoiler
black rims
black grilles (all)
black rear insert
black mirrors
black tails

to come : TINT!

what ya think guys and girls?

im thinking about doing the rear 6.0 and Pontiac badges black too

and im still thinking on doing the roof black :D

Looks good. Are you gonna paint the roof black?

still dunno rygen about paint, i can paint small objects with rattle cans but i dunno about a big area like the roof.... and to have it done perfesionaly is over a thousand bucks...

whereas vinyl will be like 300... but there will be a joint on the top of the roof

so i dunno!

It looks good but I wouldn't do the roof, I think it would be too much. The car looks great overall. Good job!

Looks good Paul. Clean and sleek looking.
I would hold off on the roof until you can get it painted, I doubt rattle cans and vinyl would do it justice. I do like the black roof though.

Looks awesome!! I think the badges would look really good in black, along with the window tint, I dont really like the whole black roof or painting between the taillights black. When are you gonna take the goat to the track?

That's looking good Paulboy -- I think that you actually have a GTO that I can say I like. One of the nicest GTO's I ever saw belonged to a friend in high school, it was a 1969 gold with black vinyl top.

You might be surprised about using rattle cans between the tailights. I did with a friend and his 1969 Mustang fastback (black) when we painted that area gold. It took some time, patience, and a lot of wet sanding but it came out great
(much better than his Corvair van that we did in high school with rattle cans, housepaint, and brushes -- but at least it ran and we could get around!)

thankyou jim and justin!
the goat will be going to the track when i get the courage to lol

wet sanding would be a must but i just dunno if i have the patience to get a gleaming finish, nor the time or a dust free facility to paint in :(.

well... vinyl isnt out of the question yet. im meeting with him tommorow again.

Downtime!

That’s acutely looks good DT, and I normally don’t like two town jobs nor strips.
Oh yeah, and PB looks like your kid is growing up.

I like that better I always felt the original chop looked off with the hood mostly silver.

You know it shouldn't cost that much to paint it. If that is what you were quoted I would go somewhere else. Paint generally costs the most for prep work. A shop should be able to scuff the paint apply the black and clear the car so there is no step to the separation line. Granted if you want a show quality shine like it has been dipped in paint it is going to cost you since you will have to wetsand between each coat and apply several layers of clear. It all depends on what you want. If you are happy with a factory type of finish just claybar it and take it to a Maaco and have them do a base and clear package. It would cost you about 800 - 1000 but it would be comparable to what you have now.

Get a few quotes today, for just the top black.... 530 to remove glass and rubber, and a further 500 for paint! not bad??

Well, then i met another guy... he will do it ALL for 400!!

OR he will do Downtimes Chop for 550!!!, all glass removed, 3 base coats, wet sand, clear coat AND buffed!!! and it will be the factory Matelic Black that the gtos come with

Yay!
