Well guys I went to go look at an 1986 Mustang Gt with an 95 or 96 Explorer motor well anyways it has alot of work done to it. Well the car looked great I really liked it but heres the problem, I rode with the guy to see how she rode. Well it has a detroit locker and holly crap like when slowing down or turning or sometimes going faster it kicks really hard like a hard buck or jerk is this normal? Also is the detroit locker a good unit? How much do you think it would cost to replace it with something more mellow, also what should I replace it with. I really like this car and want it but I cant take that bucking its not even mellow its rediculously rough.

Also the tranny shifts pretty hard to but he said he put a B&M shift kit in it so is that wy? Its an automatic I think AOD or whatever.

hmmm.....
im not sure about the detroitlocker,
but the tranny, you can put in a shift kit to make it shift harder.

also...an explorer engine? care to elaborate? reason?

yeah I kinda figured the shift kit was the reason why the AOD shifted so hard but man the car halls, and it has LCA's ,UCA's, drag shocks, MT DR's, Frame connectors, I mean when he floored it, it just stuck and was gone! I loved it! But yeah he replaced the other motor with a 95 explorer 5.0 he has all this done to it: E303 Cam, Cloyes Double Roller Timing Chain, Pro M 70mm Throttle Body, 90mm Mass Air Flow, Fresh Air kit, MSD Ign, Mac Headers and H pipe, 2.5” Flow Masters. 4.11 gears w/Detroit locker, Steeda Upper, Lower Rear Control Arms, Frame Connectors, AOD w /B&M transpac. Drag shocks, New MT Drag radials.

Its just that bucking is to rough holly crap when that diff opens and closes good lord it slams you, LOL! I read somewhere that thats a really rough rear diff so im gonna call a shop on monday and see if I can get a quote to change it out for something a little more sensible.

that sounds like a hell of a car man!
be wary though, i mean you KNOW what he has put it through, know that going in.

and replac that locker with a detroit truetrack, or a t loc, or an auburn or something. you want limited slip for daily driving, not a locker for the reasons you have pointed out!

I dont think the locker has anything to do with the bucking. I did not see what gears it is running but sounds to me like a combo of high gear ratio and a stall converter. I have the same engine and mods with just a lttle more cam in my tbird and it is definiately a strong combo. with cam and headers it is the same thing frpp used to sell as the 300 horse crate motor. The EXPO had GT40 heads and basically same intake and 65tb stock. Just add cam and headers and cobra rockers and you have a nice running 5.0.

Yeah it had 4.11's dont think it had a built torque converter though.

just take the car to a shop and have them look it over. If it is a built rear you could probably just trade someone for something a little less beefy.

I decided not to go for it, because the price of getting the rear end fixed or changed plus the car wasnt worth it then I think I would have wound up changing the tranny to, But thanks for all the help!
