Ah Rob, you lucky bastard!
I'm about halfway saved for a stainless slide XD-9. Hopefully the .40 glock will come in about 6 months...

Haha, I'm stoked. At first I really wanted the bi-tone xd-m, but the all black grew on me and I love it with a polished barrel and guide rod.

I want to get started with my collection, and hopefully hobby. But I have never shot a gun before, or at least a real one. What would be a good starter gun? I am very quick to pick things up, and usually have a knack for things like this.

There are a couple of things you can do.
1), might be to take a hand gun safety course at a local indoor gun range. In those classes they usually have you shoot several handguns, from .22's to .45's. revolvers and semi's. This would be a good way to see what might appeal to you, not to mention get a very good handle on all of the safety procedures.
pr
2)
Go to the range with a friend that is already involved with the sport/hobby and who would be willing to shoot with you and teach you safety and how to shoot. You could then rent guns at the range... most indoor ranges have several types you can rent. Start with something like the .22 and go from there.
Most of all, have fun and be safe.

Good advice by Heath. I did the same thing and also started with a .22. Plus ammo is dirt cheap for .22's so you don't break the bank getting into the hobby.

I agree with both previous posts.
.22lr is a great start...especially if you can rent a Sig Mosquito. Its a full size gun with a small caliber round.
Rob...that all black does look good. Do you have a link to the polished guide rod? Or was that a gunsmith job?

A lot of guys are doing it themselves, It's very easy to feild strip this gun (takes about 1-2 minutes) and the parts just come right out so people are just polishing them up, Some do send them in but this picture in particular the owner did it himself.

Rob...are you a member on the XD forum?
Also...do you have a link to any threads on coloring the logos and such? I though I had seen a picture of one with red and it looked SICK!!!!
These XD's are really growing on me.
Oh, and that "Customized Creationz" guy does amazing polishing work too...WOW...

Yep I joined not to long ago. I've read a lot of reviews about the new XD-Ms and I fell in love with the styling and functionality. ( 19+1 in one hand gun without an extended mag. is AWESOME!)
Here is a link of a write up on coloring your engravings,
http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/latest-...-write-up.html
The site seems to be down right now though.
OH and I just got an e-mail, my XD-M has been shipped!!
