Lightbulb My New 4.0 SOHC Build - 08-25-2011

Finally going to tear down and rebuild my 4.0 SOHC after loosing a piston and cracking the block due to fuel starvation. Can't really complain much though since I have 144,000 miles on the engine and have pounded the crap out of it the whole time and it has been boosted for 114,000 miles.

Here is where I am going and will up date this post throughout this build.

Parts list:
Ford - New 4.0 SOHC cylinder block 5L2Z-6010
Magnuson - MP1900 TVS supercharger (Prototype upgrade to the X-Charger that I have personally developed.)
Explorer Express - X-Charger intercooler
AFCO - High performance aluminum radiator AFC-80281FNU
AFCO - GT500 Pro-Series dual pass heat exchanger 80280NDP
Derale Performance - Tornado fan 8" 16508 (Used on heat exchanger)
Manley - Forged piston 9.7:1 CR
Total Seal - Piston rings (Not the gapless ones but the regular ones)
Performance Coatings - Tri-Coat piston coating.
Manley - Forged H-beam connecting rods with ARP rod bolts.
ARP - Cylinder head studs with hardened nuts and washers. (Upgrading washers from kit to ARP 200-8500 which have a larger OD.)
(ARP 200-8752 are now available and are 1" OD instead of 7/8")
ARP - Various other fasteners.
Supersix Motorsports - Stage 2+ cylinder heads.
Ford Racing - M-9407-GT05 GT500 fuel system. (Got a good buy on a brand new kit on E-Bay)
Seimens FI114191 63 lb/hr - Flow matched fuel injectors. (Purchased through Racetronix)
Cloyes - Timing set. (Actually German BorgWarner parts.)
Victor Reinz - Engine gasket set. (Gaskets including the head gaskets are the same as the OEM parts.)
Melling - M328 high volume oil pump.
(Decided against the Melling oil pump since the Manley rods don't have oil squirters like the stock rods which will add a little pressure and volume for other things.)
King - Engine Bearings.
Mocal - MOC-SP1GT Thermostatically regulated sandwich plate adapter.
Ford - 7R3Z-7A095-A Oil cooler.

These bolts need to be replace during assembly because they are a torque to yield design:
Ford - W703167-S430 Rear jackshaft sprocket bolt.
Ford - 2L2Z-6279-AA Front jackshaft sprocket bolt.
Ford - E7RY-6A340-B Crankshaft pulley bolt.

Also needed:
Ford - F77Z-6026-AB Rear jackshaft access plug/cover.

Special tools to work on the 4.0SOHC:
OTC - 303-634 Rear jackshaft socket.
OTC - 303-674 Crankshaft holding tool.
OTC - 6488 Cam service kit.
OTC - 7834 Rear crankshaft seal installer
Freedom Racing - FR-2V-4V-TD Valve spring compressor

I am not doing cams since this is still going to be a daily drive and I want to keep it tame for the street.

I will be installing my MP1900 supercharger on this build along with a Ford F150 75mm throttle body and GT500 MAF but will also get a tune with the stock 65mm throttle body and MAF sensor for comparison.

Feel free to add any comments or suggestions.

is not stage2+ heads only for use with his cams ?has to do with the length of the valves that are made longer for the smaller base circle camshafts.best check with him unless you already have.if my memory serves correctly.

@JimC
Sure! Taking orders now... What's in your wallet?

@rampant racing
That would be his Stage 3 heads which have plus length valves for reground cams. The 2+ has stock length vales. Yes I have actually talked to Tom at Supersix Motorsports extensively about this build.

Here is where I am going and will up date this post throughout this build.

Parts on order:
Manley forged piston 9.7:1 CR with Total Seal rings.
Manley forged H-beam connecting rods with ARP rod bolts.
ARP cylinder head studs with hardened nuts and washers.
Supersix Motorsports Stage 2+ cylinder heads.

Bearings? Still checking into what would be best.
Cylinder head gaskets? Leaning toward stock Ford after talking to a couple of engine builders.
Injectors? Currently 39lb, May need larger size. Checking into that.

I am not doing cams since this is still going to be a daily drive and I want to keep it tame for the street.

I will be installing my MP1900 supercharger on this build along with a Ford F150 75mm throttle body and GT500 MAF.
